BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Red Sox have issued a statement regarding the condition of Clay Buchholz:
“Clay Buchholz has esophagitis which led to an erosion of the esophagus and an associated gastrointestinal bleed. He has been evaluated and observed at Mass General Hospital. Clay is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery.”
Buchholz was scratched from his Sunday start late Saturday afternoon after being hospitalized. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.
Buchholz is tied for the team-lead with eight wins on the season, but also sports a 5.53 ERA. He was 4-0 with a 2.26 ERA in four starts in June, all wins.
