BOSTON (CBS) – It’s a championship win of a different kind for a famous team in Boston.
Mass. General Hospital has been named the best hospital in the country.
It’s the first time that MGH tops the U.S. News & World Report’s “Honor Roll” for best overall hospitals.
“The rankings are based largely on objective measures of hospital performance, such as patient survival rates, and structural resources, such as nurse staffing levels,” writes Laura McMullen of U.S. News & World Reports.
MGH ranked No. 3 this year in four categories, including Diabetes & Endocrinology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and Ear, Nose, & Throat.
Maryland’s Johns Hopkins Hospital, which ranked first for 21 consecutive years, is No. 2 this year.
Mayor Tom Menino plans to celebrate MGH’s honor with a mini duck boat championship parade.
