NORTH READING (CBS) – A local man who met his kidney donor on Facebook underwent successful transplant surgery on Tuesday.
Eddie Beatrice of North Reading suffered kidney failure after a routine shoulder surgery.
He went on to spend three-and-a-half months in Massachusetts General Hospital. Once discharged, he continued dialysis three days a week and is still in treatment.
That’s when he took his campaign to find a donor to Facebook and met Kelly Wright from Newport Beach, California.
On Tuesday, the two had surgery at Mass General.
Beatrice’s wife told WBZ-TV her husband’s new kidney is working and both he and Wright are doing well.
Beatrice is expected to stay in the hospital until next week.
